The role of being a senior carer is an important role within working in the health & social care industry. You will lead, develop and co-ordinate a team of care workers to provide the highest standards of respect and care. Overall ensuring the dignity of the clients is maintained at all times.
It takes a very special and dedicated person to become a senior carer. It is physically and emotionally demanding but the job satisfaction that you will receive it will make the job worth it. With the qualifications that you have and the experience that you will gain during your time as a senior carer, it will give you good opportunities to climb the career ladder in the care industry.
Overseas trained nurses can perform well in this role and they will have the opportunity to step up the ladder of their career. Certainly, there are opportunities if you are willing to take OET or IELTS and meet the other eligibility of NMC your client might offer you a registered nurse job.
Some of your roles & responsibilities as a senior carer will include:
- Assisting with the activities of daily living and personal care.
- Supervising a team of carers, providing support and assistance, providing them with PPE and documents as and when needed.
- Carry out spot checks on Home Carers.
- Complete reviews and assessments on Service Users as and when required.
- Reporting any issues to the management team.
- Complete and maintain records of daily activities, observations, and direct hours of service.
- Ensure service is delivered in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures and practices.
- Carry out duties as assigned by the Registered Manager
- Attend induction, in-house training sessions and staff meetings.
- Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting Clients, when required, with all aspects of daily living.
- Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Care Centre, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.
- Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional, and spiritual).
- Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Clients retain their comfort and dignity.
- Pay particular attention to assisting Clients who have limited mobility or physical / learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.
- Assist in the delivery of care for Clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last offices.
- Complete, observe, & review care planning needs for Clients, and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.
- Answer Nurse Call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
- Carry out regular checks on Clients at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
